Merc has just been found guilty of price fixing for dealer services and parts in China after raiding several dealerships in Jiangsu and a regional office in Shanghai...

The raids were just another example of the Chinese government's recent attempts to more-stringently enforce anti-monopoly laws enacted in 2008. Accusations from domestic media that carmakers are overcharging Chinese customers for spare parts has led to increased focus on the industry by China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).

"overcharging" -> that seems like such a subjective term. Is it overcharging to set a price at an amount that people are willing to buy at and also that makes you a profit? Is MB actually gouging customers unfairly? It seems like shades of grey.

You just need to be well informed as a consumer and as to have these things outlined so you see what you're paying for, so at least when you do sign your life away you know what you're actually paying for. Some don't do that and pay mark up's.

It's all part of being an early adopter, if you want it asap you're going to come across places like that if you don't already have your homework done and have shopped around enough.

Are you saying that in China everyone who buys a car is an early adopter since the market was only opened to outside companies recently?

I guess when you live in communist country, those liberties aren't really granted. They see it as malicious instead of raising the price because of high demand.

Yes, in general that's how it is, not just in one country or location but in likely all, if not... most.
