I have a question. Do the pins stay well-in-place by friction? Do they need to be tapped into place? or do they slide in too-easy by thumb and is there risk they will slide out when driving?

there is no risk of losing the cleats while riding.
The fixing of the sunroof and safer than the original.
The cleats slide smoothly into the rail, and there is a locking roof attachment with two stainless steel pins.

I suggest you to 3D print the part number into it as well. that way if a dealer does some investigation or wants to find things for voiding warranty, they will think it's an OEM part and won't cause trouble

I don't think that's a problem, because the original parts are not covered by a mercedes warranty anyway. The dealer can only be jealous of this modification and cry because he hasn't found the solution...😂😂🤣🤣

That would certainly be unethical at the least and copyright infringement at worst.

Anyway, a dealer has to prove a modification directly contributed to their/your cited systemic fault in order to void the warranty. And this aftermarket component is after all repairing a faulted system in the first place.
