An AMG version of Mercedes’ upcoming GLA crossover was just spied taking laps around the Nurburgring.

The performance variant of Mercedes’ small crossover will come powered with the same turbo 2.0-liter four cylinder found in the CLA 45 AMG and A 45 AMG cars. That means 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque on tap through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the latest version of Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system.

Black plastic still covers the car, but larger wheels, wide tires and big brakes stuffed into the wheel wells hint at the car’s performance. Of course, the car will also sit lower to the ground than its normal GLA siblings.

When it reaches showrooms, the GLA 45 AMG will compete with Audi’s RS Q3, which pushes 360 hp out of a turbocharged five-cylinder engine.

Thanks for posting, that video put a big smile on my face!
I know those wheels will be on the production model. They're on the CLA45 AMG, good chance the GLA45 AMG will get it too, they don't look that good and one of the first mods I do is replacing them with something much nicer.
So what makes the AMG model more special than the regular model??

It'll have a substantially more powerful engine (hand built), with performance tuned suspension and exhaust. It'll also have bigger brakes, and four wheel drive. Plus there are a number of aesthetic tweaks.

In other words, it'll accelerate better, turn better, stop better, and (depending on your tastes) look better.

The regular version however, will probably have a much softer ride and better MPG. Everything is a tradeoff. ;) That said, I was surprised to see that the CLA's mpg is still pretty darn good.

You can get a accurate picture of all this by checking out the differences between the regular CLA and the AMG version.

Exactly, it's basically a performance model meant to be a top performer in it's segment of cars. EVERYTHING or at least all the prime area's: suspension, engine, brakes, technology, etc has been upgraded. It's almost like a whole new car
body roll looks adequate.

tires seem to squeal easily. understeers a tad bit at turnin.

exhaust sounds awesome.
She's a squealer. sounds exactly liek the CLA 45 AMG :D

changes in the gear produces the same thunderous thud.
