I finally took the plunge. Carlsson looks up your ECU according to VIN#, tunes the box, and then they ship it out. Pretty cool. I will be sure to write up a review here as soon as it arrives.

They said it should be here in about 8-10 days! >:D

The beauty is that Carlsson takes over your warranty.

"Carlsson offers a three-year warranty on all their conversions and parts. With fitting done by an accredited specialist workshop, the factory warranty is unaffected, and Carlsson guarantees all its own parts in full. "

I am also adding a few more goodies onto my GLA when the tuning box arrives, so 'stay tuned!' (pun intended)

Very interesting, I'll wait for updates!)))
Is the increase in power is planned?

Definitely looking forward to what this turns out being like for you.

Are you going to bother with doing a dyno run before/after or not at all?

I think I'm just going to run against my wife's GLA250 for a before & after.

My thinking towards these mods has less to do with being 'fast' and more to do with how I think the 250 should've been tuned at purchase. I LOVE this little beast as a daily driver, but... I just think it should have a 0-60 better than a Honda Accord lol

Please keep us posted with this conversion. I'm thinking of tuner options and would love to know your impressions once you have it installed and tested.

Stated numbers are 253hp and 309ft lbs, however, someone with a CLA250 put on a catback exhaust with the C-tronic and made up to 309ft lbs to the WHEELS, which translates to a much higher peak torque figure. (calculated for drivetrain loss that would be a peak of 364ft lbs at the crank if calculated at 18% drivetrain loss, though I'm not sure if 18% is the correct number for this chassis...)

One thing to remember about turbo-boosted torque readings though: Boost falls after hitting peak with tunes like these,(just look at any dyno graphs posted for the CLA250 with a tune) so I'm not expecting it to feel like I just out a V8 under the hood, it will run very well, but I'm not expecting to be blown away, I have my summer car for that.

It's going to require a catless downpipe and larger diameter exhaust to make any bigger numbers. I will definitely do a downpipe once released.

@Boris_Balkan - Is your module the CB25? I was looking up the info on the Carlsson site (below) and saw that it requires an octane rating of 98 (if I am understanding the RON value below correctly). Unfortunately, if that is the case, this option would be out for me as in the Pacific NW our usual high octane is only 91. :(

Original:
max. power: 155kW (211hp) / 5.500 rpm
max. torque: 350Nm / 1.200 - 4.000 rpm

Carlsson:
max. power: 186kW (253hp) / 5.500 rpm
max. torque: 420Nm / 1.200 - 4.000 rpm

Fuel required: RON 98 (RON 95 only in emergencies and at partial load)

I have access to 93 octane

USA (AKI/PON) --- Europe (RON)

87 = 91
89 = 93
91 = 95
93 = 98

Thanks for the clarification/conversion. I'd have to look around to see what options I have. It's still pretty uncommon in my area to see anything higher than 91.

Yep, I will. I have arranged my GLA with serial 250 one on Tuesday to do some comparing tests...

95 (US 91) is normal one in Europe, 98 is much better. Shell offers here expensive 100+ RON petrol, I use it in my Smart Brabus and the difference can be seen...

Do you guys think going with a higher octane fuel than what is recommend will result in a slightly better performing vehicle?

I think yes, especially is smaller engines. I feel real difference in my smart Brabus between 95 and Shell's 100...

For my GLA I use only 98

Oh that question opens a BIG can of worms....

If your car is tuned for premium gas, it will NEED premium gas to reduce risk of engine knock or detonation.

If your car is tuned for regular gas, it will need regular gas for the same reason.

Higher octanes merely are more 'resistant' to detonation.

So, when a car is TUNED to run 104 octane, it is utilizing the 'safety features' of a higher octane fuel, meaning, it will resist detonation much better.

Here's a great explanation with visuals: The Truth About Gas! Does Premium Fuel Perform Better?

So, I did 2 tests today. GLA250 4Matic vs. the same model + Brabus B25.

Start-up race, and 80km/h+...
Difference was big. From start to 3th gear Brabus was faster then full car length. Drag race even little better.
There were no reasons to try more. It's clearly faster.

PS Sorry my English, hope You got what I mean :)

Please everyone doing these tunes keep us informed of the results. I'm intrigued by the Carlsson chip, though the warranty claims seem a little foggy to me.

Are you saying that installation voids the MB warranty, but Carlsson will pick up the liability?

What's involved with the install? Is it plug and play?

A jump to 300 ft/lbs of torque sounds like exactly what the doctor ordered for this car!

The C-Tronic is such a viable option because it not only is REALLY EASY to install and remove, (to hide from a dealer) but Carlssön also is backing up your warranty if mercedes does not. That's a testament to Carlssön's belief that their products are both reliable and badass>:D lol

Btw, I have found a downpipe for the GLA250. However, there is no custom tune for it yet. And I urge any of you, DO NOT GET A DOWNPIPE WITHOUT A TUNE. The downpipe and cat are the biggest BOTTLE-NECK of the GLA, so without a tune, the ECU is going to freak out.
Biggest gains always happen at the downpipe in turbo cars, so it's not a mod to be taken lightly lol I will be buying the downpipe as soon as a tune rolls out for that mod specifically! I'll keep you all posted, but I would guess with downpipe, the GLA will finally hit the 300hp mark and the torque will likely climb to around 350hp, when comparing to similar 2.0T's.
