Hi all GLA owners, my question is for anyone who has a GLA 200 with petrol engine, do you find the fuel injection system to be noisy?

I've had my car back to the dealership twice to see why my fuel injection system makes a loud clicking noise. They've had the resident mechanic and a regional Mercedes expert have a look, both say it is normal but I find it hard to believe that a fuel injection system should be so loud. For a petrol engine it sounds like a diesel...

I'd be grateful if anyone with a similar petrol engine could give me feedback if they have the same issue? It might be standard or it might be just a noisy component which the local dealer doesn't want to replace?

Any advice will be helpful...

regards

@Tagman have you been able to find your answer, whether that be through another forum or through an article by an automotive publication?

So far the local dealer can't give anything new as a reason for the noise, they think it's normal but I know from the test drive model that it's not. I contacted Mercedes direct in Germany and they sent me an email requesting the cars details and dealer so they can look into it more...

I know it's not normal and reckon it's a component that's just too noisy, why else would they already ship it with a rubber sound proofing? It could be a rogue part which works okay but is noisy, I've had this before with another car where a fuel pump was noisy and had to be changed to a new quieter one... we shall see what Mercedes Germany can advise...

Update on Engine noise...

It seems that Mercedes HQ in Germany passed my question onto their technical section, who then passed it onto the regional team, who then went back to the dealership to ask their opinion. Round the houses without any feedback as to what could be the cause.

They seem to think it is normal for the ticking noise when the engine is running, and as they quote 'they can find no fault with any components so they are not obliged to do anything further...'

So unless the noisy part breaks I'm stuck with the ticking noise... but I am going to put my car into a special test center in the UK so they can check out the noise. So far they've only seen a film shot via my iPhone, their opinion is that it isn't normal... so we shall see the outcome...:|

When ever they say it's normal, sometimes I like to think it's their way to say "don't bother us"
If it doesn't sound normal to you, chances are it isn't. Even people not all that into cars will have that feeling when they hear specific sounds.

I'm busy building my 'case' to tackle Mercedes about it... so far I have one other GLA 200 petrol which is much quieter than my engine, so it looks like a noisy component... it's the direct injection system that's creating the clicking... once I can get a few more films (with sound) from other 200 drivers then I can prove my point and get Mercedes to replace the part for a quieter one... after all it's about customer service and driving a noisy GLA isn't a good advert for the brand...
