Official: Mercedes didn't reveal the GLA, but a Spanish website did it for them

Several hours after Mercedes revealed the first video teaser, a Spanish news site revealed the official pictures of the GLA and a lot of information. Based on the A-Class platform this small SUV (it is 4420mm long, 1800mm wide and 1500mm high) is one of the most aerodynamic in its segment, with a drag coefficient of 0.29.

Since it is based on the A-Class, the interior is almost identical to that car. The big exceptions are the height of the seats and the air vents that have a new shape that gives them an improved air flow. The boot has room for 421 liters and up to 836 liters with the rear seats folded down.

The exterior follows the same line used by the recent models of the German car manufacturer, and, of course, the A-Class. The increase height won't allow you to really go off-road, but can easily climb a sidewalk or ride on roads with some dirt or sand.

Helping you climb that big sidewalk is a new-generation 4MATIC four-wheel drive system with Mercedes's Downhill Speed Regulation system (DSR). When the GLA arrives at dealers, you will be able to choose between two diesel options; 200CDI (2.2-liter with 1236PS) and 220CDI (2.2-liters with 170PS), and two petrol variants; 200 (1.6-liter with 156PS) and the 250 (2.0-liter with 211PS). Later, Mercedes will also offer the 180CDI with the Renault engine, the 1.5-liter unit with 109PS.

Fuel consumption will average from 4.3 l/100km (65.7 UK mpg or 54.7 USA mpg) up to 7.1l/100km (39.8 K mpg or 33.1 USA mpg). The GLA 200 and 180CDI will only be available with front-wheel drive. Mated to these engines is a six-speed manual gearbox or the double-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission 7G-DCT. This last option com as standard with the GLA 250, 220CDI and the 4MATIC versions.
Also, the rear overhang is less than CLA-CLASS.
