Could it be an Electrical Problem? [Rear Washer and CarPlay]

477 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  gordon1712
My 2022 GLA is giving me some grief. I've had it for 1 year and it only has 7500 miles. The rear window washer will not release the washing fluid (tank is full).

Also, when I connect Google maps via the USB, Apple Play keeps dropping. I'll be driving and don't even notice that it's dropped out and I'm no longer getting directions.

The time on the radio keeps changing. I reset it and a day or so later, it's wrong.

This is my first Mercedes and I'm very disappointed that I'm having these issues so soon. I was going to bring it to the dealer for the "A" service but decided to hold off because of posts on here saying the price is astronomical. Any help?

The 'A' service is pretty much just an oil/filter change and a number of checks, so not very expensive. Although yes Mercedes is in general expensive. But then a luxury vehicle, even if "entry level."
You'll want to maintain your warranty so best to have Mercedes do it. Although you can also meet warranty with proper records keeping from an independent.
Delaying routine maintenance is never prudent.
Besides which you'll presumably be bringing it into dealership service for this in-warranty issues resolution, so 'one stop shopping.'

Note that some have found that they are not fully properly eliciting the rear washer control. Or it could be a line blockage as only one pump for both windshield and rear washer.

Sometimes the quality of the USB cable itself is the issue. Do you have a similar issue using wireless Bluetooth/WiFi to CarPlay?

My Android Auto problems had nothing to do with MB. Just recently software updates fixed the AA drop outs. And a wireless dongle fixed the cable problems.

Cover the rest while you still have your warranty.

Thanks for the reply. Guess I’ll go for the A Service.
Didn’t realize there was one pump for front and rear washer. I was thinking it may be a fuse but I guess that’s ruled out now as the front is working. Can’t seem to locate the rear hose to check it.
I do have an inexpensive cable for USB. Guess I’ll try a new one. Also didn’t realize I could use Bluetooth to connect to Car Play. I’m just a dinosaur 😂.
I’ll give it all a try. Thanks.

This is available for Carplay as well as AA. It made all the difference in connecting to the car. I would not suggest cables.

Ottocast Wireless Android Auto... Amazon.com

Additionally, I picked up a high power wireless cradle / charger so I can toss my phone in the charger and go. No cables needed.

Wireless Car Charger, CHGeek 15W... Amazon.com

Hello. I have a 2021 GLA and I returned to the dealership for issues I had the first 3 months. They can give you a quote to look at the problems. Do this before your service A. Please save for your Service A and B. Both are important in my opinion.
I have had all those same issues as well with my 2021 GLA which I bought used on August 31st, 2022 with 14,000 miles on it. I haven't really concentrated on any of them because I had a bigger issue - after having the car for 2 weeks it slipped into Neutral while driving.

It has subsequently slipped into Neutral while Driving a total of 7 times.

After a total of 13 weeks in the shop at the Dealership - they have replaced the Transmission, the Alternator and Belt and the Cylinder.

I don't feel confident with the vehicle any longer and have asked MB Corporate to Buy it back. The Dealership has sent them a lengthy email saying that the vehicle has gone through all these repairs and that I wasn't happy about it and do not feel safe driving it.

I am waiting to hear back. Meanwhile, all those other little glitches still take place.

Oh my goodness. I would not feel safe driving that either. I hope they will buy it back. Stay out of that GLA.

Make sure the washer fluid line and jets are not blocked, or the pump has not seized or gummed up with sludge. (Don’t use or mix different antifreeze’s or washer additives (if any at all) this has happened to me. Disconnect the line at the pump and see if the pump is pumping. The pump is located behind the inner guard liner.
Preserve your warranty by getting that A service. It is only an oil change, so shouldn’t be too expensive.
Oil is cheap and euro cars need to be serviced on time/when due. It’s not a 350 chev😂.
After the warranty, service it yourself if you are confident in doing so, after all, it is only a car.

as for those electrical faults, …battery maybe?
But batteries should last 4 years I’d expect.

( I am also disappointed with “luxury”car reliability. Never again😩.)
