I bought a used 2021 GLA250 and it happened the second week I owned it - then again a month later and on Monday - happened three times on my way to work - once in the fastest lane on a 4 lane highway doing 60-70 miles an hour. For me - it always happened when it's been raining out.
I took it to a dealership who currently have it. I will post here when I get results.

Hi
Thanks for your input.
I just got back my GLA250 4Matic yesterday after it being in the Dealers Hands for 4 weeks while they sent multiple diagnostics to MB-GERMANY to figure out and get OK to replace parts surrounding transmission (sorry I'm not completely understanding what they replaced. They then had to run it 200 miles to make sure it didn't happen again.
Well needless to say - today was a snow storm and on my way to work it happened again !!!! What I noticed this time was that the Radar Sensor shut off prior (a warning came up on my Dash to tell me it shut off. Then it slipped into neutral while driving about 50 miles an hour on a 4 lane highway.
It is back at the Dealership awaiting further service to figure out.
I don't know if because the sensor for radar shut off - that it triggered the car to go into neutral or not.

I hope they do find the real problem. I just don't understand how mechanics take such a long time to figure out the problem of a car. Even MB dealership is not reliable. You don't know who trust. These cars are not cheap either. I wish you best luck this time

Me too !!!

I'm at the point where i don't even feel safe getting it back and driving it....

When I brought it there to begin with they told me that they had never heard of the problem before - yet I was able to type it in a search engine and this GLA forum came up with all sorts of people having the same issue with different models of Mercedes. One guy here had a NIHSA recall posted here so I printed it out in case I need to state my case further...I did tell them about this forum for reference to the issue at hand. I'm just ferklempt as to why it's taking so long to deal with.

Thanks for your best wishes. I will post here the next results.

This happened to me yesterday after driving perhaps 1 mile as soon as I got on the highway and it was the scariest thing ever. I just got this car, but I didn't buy it new. We thought we were going to die. Please let me know if you've found something because I can't fathom how a car that does this hasn't been recalled. I don't know why no one has responded to this. It's a very big deal.
I bought my 2016 GLA 250 four months ago. and all has been fine with it, that is, until recently. I replaced the battery, and now I'm having the same issue with the car shifting from drive to park while stopped at an intersection. It's also happened a couple times while in drive. If anyone has information they can share with me regarding this issue, please let me know. Thanks so much!

Having the same issue. Purchased a used 2016 GLC 300 and within 4 weeks it started to go in neutral after reversing. I have to place it in drive 3-4 times before it sticks and it’s a hard jerk when it finally goes in drive. It also jumps gears to D3. I put it in sport and turn off the automatic mode (eco) to keep it from going in neutral at stops. I’ve replaced the auxiliary battery and issue remains. Anyone with any further insight please post. I will keep you all updated if I get anywhere with my certified MB tech. Please do the same.

I just bought a 2019 GLA and it shifts into neutral while driving. This is frightening. I called Mercedes’ customer service. Oh well!!!!! It’s at the shop but they can’t recreate it. Ugh. No recall in this potentially dangerous situation?
They can run a diagnostic to see exactly when it happened and at what speed. My car has done it 6 times since Ive owned it (GLA 250 4MATCI 2021 and it's been at the Dealership for 4 weeks then again now for 6 weeks. Once more and it is a LEMON.

You may want to consider pursuing a "buy back." Manufacturers actually prefer same over a "lemon law" case as once branded as such far more difficult for them to resell. A buy back keeps it off such logs. Usually better to contact corporate, but you could start with the dealership.

I concur, try starting with the dealership but contact corporate regardless. That way all bases are covered from the get-go and everyone is on the same page. Send an email to both at the same time so that there's a paper trail and make sure you get everything in writing in case of some dispute/misunderstanding.

Do I have to allow them 3 tries for fixing it before approaching the buy back...? Also I just bought this vehicle on August 31. Are they going to offer far less on a buy back than what I paid for it?

I'm not sure of the actual requirements for "buy back" vis a vis your state's Lemon Law. Again a call (with backup email) to both dealership and Corporate will better advise and also put them on notice that you're entertaining this potentiality.

During the recent once in a lifetime pandemic-related very high used vehicle sale/trade-in it was actually possible to get more than you paid for it, but that bubble has now pretty much burst. Even so you should still get a reasonable offer.

Good, as we have some of the best buyer-protection laws in the nation. Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin does an excellent job in my experience.

I've never pursued a Lemon Law but have had one buyback (VWG) and was reasonably satisfied with it. Again, vehicle manufacturers generally prefer a buy back.

Question:

Since I bought the car from a Chevy Dealer, (it was a trade in) but now it's been with a Mercedes Dealer for a combination of almost 7 weeks - whom do I start the Buy-Back conversation with - besides Mercedes Corporate directly ?
Thanks for any insight.

Again, you’re better for going direct to Corporate, especially as not bought from a Benz dealership. This is of course a bit unusual for a lemon law/buy back case, which is more typically on an in-warranty new Benz or certified pre-owned. But it can’t hurt to get Corporate’s take on it.

Good morning.

Would you suggest me writing to MB-USA or MB-GERMANY to start the buy back process...?

Thank you.

However again when first discussing I presumed you had bought your 2021 GLA from a Mercedes dealership and thereby still under original owner warranty. So not sure how this "buy back" attempt will go. But again no harm in soliciting their insight.

You should certainly also contact your Chevy dealer in writing to cite that you are having such issues with your pre-owned purchase from them.

I have nothing further to share. All the best.
