Hi guys, just picked up my 2020 gla250 from service. had a B Service and brake fluid change done. total bill was $1,020 CAD. Car has only ~11600 on it since new and is extremely well maintained. is this a reasonable price to pay or am i being ripped off? A Service last year was around $3-400 CAD.

I know that the B Service is far more extensive but it’s a hard pill to swallow that the bill is so high for a newish car that had no actual issues, just general maintenance.

Service B is changing the brake fluid and doing things in service A. If they did nothing else beyond service B, They are charging you around $600 for brake fluid change. I would say overcharged. You should have any itemized bill listing what they did and the charges,

Just scheduled service appointment with an independent BMW/audi/porsche/mercedes specialist shop (not dealership) in NY state who quoted $135 parts & labor for synthetic oil change with car lookover/safety check and $150-$160 parts & labor estimate for brake fluid change for my 2019 gla 250. I have had good luck finding reputable and experienced independent shops vs higher priced dealerships.

A & B service is a ‘Mercedes tax’ scam IMHO. There’s a reason the dealerships are called stealerships lol… They rely on people just accepting the high cost of ownership because ‘that’s the way it is with a luxury car’. The person who hasn’t ever/doesn’t know how to release the hood latch is the dealerships best friend. “Hey, want them wiper blades replaced?” That’ll be $150.

As already mentioned, a reputable indi shop is your friend for preventative maintenance. I can get my oil changed for $140 USD with Motul and a complementary multi point inspection vs what you paid for a glorified oil change + ‘fluid/safety check’ that Mercedes officially calls ‘Service A’.

Another example: I paid $550 USD in March of 2021 for oil change, rear diff service, and brake fluid exchange. That’s essentially half the price of your Service B, plus I got diff service. The only thing missing is the filters (engine + cabin), which are like $40 a pop and take a literal 5 mins to swap.

The air filters are some of the biggest dealership scams there are and drive up the price of the A + B service. They’ll charge something like $150 to do a engine air filter in a 45 when you have to loosen four torx25 screws to open the filter box and rotate the filter like 40 degrees. I think you could train a monkey to do it lol. That’s ~$100 in labor right there that is added to your service A for 5 mins of work.

Yes I agree. My my2018 4matic goes in for a B5 service today at my Indie. It will be interesting to see the cost of the Indie after being quoted $AUD1700 by the stealership.

What was it? I'm supposed to go in but am hesitant since the last time I took it to a Benz 'stealership' for some reason my seat belt light went off and suddenly my seat belt air bag sensor needs to fixed/replaced. I'm almost sure they made that happen.

Are you in NY? Or in the Tri-State area? If so where did you go? That would be very helpful finding an independent that's not a ghoul..
Thx

I would go to the independent workshop that I am familiar with except i’m not allowed as the car is under warranty, with another 3 years left

B5 service at my Indie cost AUD$700, so I don't know what the extra $1000 cost entailed at the stealership.
