a clicking for every wheel rotation? so, something inside the tire, something with the brakes, bearing, etc? Are the tires old, consider replacing? having brakes inspected?

Kids bicycles sometimes come with beads on the spokes. They make clicking noises until you reach speed then they stop sliding on the spokes and the noise stops...

That's certainly unfortunate.

Changing the differential fluid a couple times will better assure it's fully cleaned out of any metal shavings, etc. and replenished with Benz approved fresh fluid. That just may buy you some additional time.

Forum flu ...

Causes ... The only time many people post are when they have a problem. While there are many many people without problems, those people don't post their reliability.

Symptom ... There is a belief that all "car brand X" vehicles have all of these problems.

Results ... You become afraid to buy any car!!!

We hear that the GLA has rear diff problems as well as other common reports. We have no idea if this is endemic. But we can get a glimpse of trends and adjust our behavior accordingly (maintenance, warm up procedure, driving techniques, etc).

So ... Change the rear diff fluid at every oil change. If you pay attention to Used Oil Analysis (UOA) and change oil every 5K miles then change the diff oil every other change.

It is possible your noise is caused by metal that may be present due to unclean conditions during assembly, normal initial break in wear, abuse, or other situations.

Removing the metal via an oil change is a good start. Oil changes are merely dilutions. Some oil (and metal) will be left behind. Multiple oil changes improve the dilution ratio. Also, this insures the correct oil is used. I'd start with that, per the dealer recommendation.

What Wayne said.

I wouldn't say game over. However without knowing the vehicle's service history it's very difficult to remotely add anything more to the discussion. If we presume the 'A' & 'B' services were done at an authorized Benz dealership as biennially scheduled and they actually did what they were supposed to (my dealership once missed one of my brake fluid changes but I caught it for the 3rd year) then it just may be that there was some leftover oil/metal needed removing. As Wayne well cites it's always a bit of a dilution rather than a complete change given the "nooks & crannies" of any such mechanism.

Given pandemic restrained driving we have far less than your accumulated miles/km to date, but no such differential issues in either of our GLA's (one AWD and one FWD).

So, do as the Benz doctors prescribe (two fluid changes) and then we'll see .....
so u think its game over and with this oil change it will buy some time? what do u think ? how many km ? i know im asking too much just say what u think :)

thanks for the help

[Hello, search within the same forum, there is a class action lawsuit in the USA for the failed differential of the 4matic model X156 that would be yours. Mine started to fail at 50,000 kilometers and I still haven't changed it, I've been at 66,000 kilometers and now the dual-mass flywheel fails and with all its maintenance at the dealership. It can be a consequence of not changing it, better to do it soon; both repairs US$10,000.-ed]

Good morning,
I had this problem as well, cost me over $6000 USD, 2 years ago. I tried to get a class action suit because this problem is rampant with the GLA, however no one seems to care?
I was told by my mechanic that Mercedes had these parts readily available which meant it was a very common problem!

i had this problem and having them replace the rear differential fluid gets everything running smooth no more noise. it will last 6 months or more unless your rear differential is significantly damaged. It is that expensive to fix. Also the fun flat tires on this car are very loud tires.
good luck to you.

The differential problems are so common with the GLA 250, that the actual replacement differentials are readily available. I paid $5500 for mine at $49k miles. Im hoping this wont become a problem once again at 100k as I have heard this can occur as well.

Here we go again with "so common." Sorry to read of your CY2020 expense of $4,500 at 49K miles, however:

As Wayne well cites above:

And again we have two 2018 GLA's with nary an issue.
