When we bought the GLA it did not have Homelink installed. It seemed to be over $1k for the OEM mirror and no idea on what the labor would be.
I really just have an issue with a $50k car not having homelink in it. The idea of clipping a garage door remote to the visor is unacceptable.
Seriousl. My 04 Dodge has homelink. WTF MB...
Anyhow...
I looked at a few different options and went with the aftermarket Homelink kit I found on Amazon.
Part # is HMLKV5BLK.
This is the newest Gen 5 unit with a tiny transmitter. I felt that with a good location and some care, it would look fairly OEM.
Because of a lack of time and honestly, a little apprehension at messing up my wife's car, I talked to a higher end audio shop here in the valley.
I'm really glad I did. It took two certified techs over 4 hours to install this **** thing. But that was mainly due to their desire for perfection. They really made an effort to do everything as nice as possible.
There was nothing to use for the illumination wire in the overhead console, so they had to route that to under the dash. There was also a little massaging required to fit the unit there, but the central location was preferred.
Overall, it works very well. Range is excellent., and it blends in well with the interior.
