I purchased a 2017 GLA250 and it does not have the garage door homelink buttons. If I replace the mirror with one that does have the homelink and auto dimming options is there an additional wire harness in the overhead console for the addtional harness on the new replacement mirror ( I suppose it is for the auto dimming or compass)?

I'm curious, what did you do exactly?

Well, the step by step directions are in the link I posted and followed those... but I guess my version is...

1. buy a home link mirror from a salvage gla or cla on eBay and harness 156-540-56-05 from Pelican Parts

2. Remove the rain sensor cover and SOS buttons. Be careful with the SOS buttons as they have a clip that has to be compressed first and then pushed down otherwise it will break.

3. Drop the N70 overhead unit by pushing up between the back of it and the headliner. It’s spring action that needs to be pushed forward to drop it down and you need more force than you’d think. The hack here is to use a plastic spatula that is wide enough to make contact with the whole spring piece.

4. remove the old mirror with a wrench (there’s two grooves on the back of it to hold on to) and unplug the single wire harness.

5. Insert the blue end of the new harness into the blue end coming off the homelink mirror and then remove the three wires from the white end. You need a couple paper clips as the plug has a two step process to get the wires out (see below pic). It doesn’t matter if you mangle the white plug getting the wire off as it’s not used, just make sure you don’t damage the wires if you have trouble and start hacking.

6. Attach the home link mirror to your car and insert the white plug that was already there from the original.

7. On the passenger side of the N70 overhead unit when it’s dropped down is a white plug (pretty sure it’s the middle one). Insert the three wires from the new harness into their corresponding spots in the white plug just mentioned above in this step. This whole entire process really needs to have the credit given to the guy who originally figured out where to put the three wires. His original picture is below.

8. Reassemble everything and you’re done. No programming or anything needed. To check if it works.. take your finger and cover the sensor on the backside of the mirror and then shine a light (like your phone) at the sensor on the front of the mirror and if it tints blue you’re all good. The test won’t work unless you cover the front sensor.

Good luck. I could provide better details on any of the steps if anyone needs it.

First of all - thank you very much. This was a very easy upgrade. Cost was around $120 with the mirror and the harness. Second, figuring out the clips and release was a little challenging but eventually I understood all 3 pieces to remove/release from the headliner area. The SOS button thinger was the most difficult to figure out honestly. Third, I had to look at the replacement mirror for a second to figure out what you meant - you are going to use an adjustable wrench to turn THE WHOLE MIRROR and not some bolt or nut, and that's why there are flat spots on the shaft. Fourth, that the 3 tabs in the center of the mirror are spring loaded and go back into the ceiling mount and when you twist in reverse it spring locks itself into place. Fifth and last, the pins you remove from the connector on the new harness you purchase are DELICATE (you throw away the white connector you remove them from off the new harness) and the pins are VERY EASY to accidentally bend and break ... which would be a DISASTER as the only real fix is a replacement harness.

I also appreciated the recalibration by driving in circles to make the compass in the mirror become accurate.

Again - thank you for the directions and information.

Hi ! I would love to complete that upgrade on a B250 2017. I purchased the mirror and the harness. However, the connector is slightly different in my overbid console. I was assuming it was the same harness for the B-Class as I thought GLA and CLA were sharing a lot of parts ... anyone knows the good harness to order ? The mirror was coming from a B-Class ...

Hi Everyone - Even I am facing a similar issue. I also have a 2017 B250 without auto dimming and garage door opener. I purchased the mirror from a salvaged B250 and have connected the auto-dimming mirror to the existing wire with the white connector. However, the blue connector hasn't been connected as I haven't bought the harness. Can anyone confirm if the harness mentioned above (Part#156-540-56-05-MBZ ) will also fit the 2017 B250 as well?

Can you share some photos of the connector setup on your overbid console?
