Ams tune

Hey guys,

Added an AMS cold air intake to my 2015 gla45 and Im thinking whats next... debating on adding the AMS down pipe and tune but concerned with reliability and maintenance. Anyone have any feedback from adding a tune? I dont flip cars often so Id like to keep this one up and running (if there is such a thing) with minimal wear. If not AMS, any suggestions? They are local to me here in Chicago and their shop is pretty accessible.
Thanks guys

I hold onto cars too, so here is my advice (2015 with 21k now)....I'd tell you to forgo tunes and stuff for more power for now. How long have you owned it? Maintenance on these is not cheap, and that is my focus:

Annual oil/filter and OEM filter (for now, have thought about an upgrade here, but for the $ I've seen, not sure it's worth it). Tranny/front diff and rear diff fluid changes (rear not bad on cost, but tranny fluid/filter and front diff cost me $495). Not annual on the tranny/diffs, but look at the intervals, don't let this go.

How many miles do you have, have you done brakes, that will not be cheap?

I also will be inquiring about extended factory warranty early next year, and who knows what that will be, a couple thou for 2 yrs? I'd rather go there, a motor, tranny, rear diff is likely a huge expense. This motor and large turbo push the drivetrain to limits.

GLA owner to be? Looking that way. DONE

Yeah I just did the service B maintenance. I picked it up in September of this year with 11k miles and I just hit 13k. I don’t have a long commute so I don’t plan to add too many miles. I added the cold air intake which replaces the filter, supposedly adds a few HP but honestly just sounds bad a**

How often do you do tranny and diff fluids? Is that on the service schedule. They didn’t have to do it on my service b in October when I did it.

How many miles do you have?

Have not had to do brakes (im expecting over a grand *♂️) as of yet but I’ll also be looking for an aftermarket warranty come May of next year.

Just installed my downpipe and mid pipe. Both fully ceramic coated from JetHot. Computer just sent to AMS for tune today. I’ll let you know when I get it back and have driven the car.

I was planning on the dyno afterwards. I never did a before dyno but at least there will be a final number to compare with the tuners numbers.

Here are the stock downpipe and midpipe. Notice the flat section in the midpipe. The piece I replaced it with was not flattened so install was a bit tougher and a protective cover over the transmission had to be removed. That cover looked like it was for heat and since my midpipe was JetHot Extreme Coated I wasn’t worried about a heat issue. After the midpipe there are 2 resonators before the muffler. Simple system and many ideas for future custom exhaust to get rid of the resonators and huge heavy muffler and still retain factory sport exhaust valve.

Note that once you swap out the downpipe for one without a cat, the smell from your exhaust is like rotten eggs!

I guess that if you change downpipe before the tune, you may encounter a O2 CEL error. You can overcome that by fitting an O2 sensor extender or you can add in the tune afterwards. The ECU tune will prevent the O2 CEL error from coming up.

Enjoy the mods!

Not at all worried about the smell. I tune all my vehicles so I am always ready for the weird smells and sounds that come with it. Lol

Now I put the downpipe and mid section in and the car is sitting inside the garage until the tune has been completed. So I haven’t even started it yet since the swap. AMS told me it shouldn’t throw a code if I wanted to drive it, but not going to anyway until it’s tuned. Thanks for the heads up though.

Cool bananas! With ECU tuning, you don't have to worry about throwing an O2 error.

Happy driving!
