2015 GLA45 AMG Trans. Oil Overheated

Hi all, just want to share with anyone out there having the same issue - 45AMG family or maybe more.

Currently having this issue when I push the car hard (frequent high rev upshift, hard brake downshift situation) roughly for 10 minutes the car's transmission oil temp would raise from 85C to above 121C until the above error pops up and lose power. The ambient temperature was around 25C in all the tests performed. The car is 4 years old with 70k kilometres clocked.

The car is in dealer's workshop for the 6th week now. According to the dealer, this is the first case found in the entire country, I live in Malaysia. They have to contact Germany and a few parts have been replaced e.g coolant pump, coolant pipe, transmission cooling system, transmission oil, I have just received call yesterday that a brand new AMG gear box is going in tomorrow (STILL UNDER WARRANTY). I'm running out of wits what else can possibly be the problem.

I hope replacing the gear box will finally bring this problem to an end. If it does it will put a big smile on my face and I'll update here to close the loop. Otherwise the saga continues and I'll update here as well whenever a new part is changed or repaired.

My objective here is to let others know if you currently have this problem, first you are not alone and secondly this is how far the journey takes. Still your mileage varies I hope you the best or nothing, sorry, best of luck.

Wow, 121C* converts to 249*F, never been anywhere near that, not even close. I've seen in the 175*F when fully warm in summer.

Have you changed your tranny fluid (which also changes front diff with AWD and they change a filter) and rear diff fluids? AMG needs this, I did this just a bit ago at 20k.

Edit: I feel I should advise on this car....AMG has pushed a 2.0T to it's reasonable limits, it has the highest production HP/liter from a manuf. for a 4 cyl. and right at the top of HP/liter in general. It has a massive turbo, tons of power/torque and ok front/rear diffs, upgraded speedshift tranny but you don't get a lot of details around that since a regular GLA 250 also has a 7 spd DCT. So, power brings heat, and heat needs cooling. Very important not to neglect ALL fluids for ALL systems, and equally important a local master tech told me how critical the air filter change out is. These things suck massive air, and will clog a stock filter way faster than you may realize.

heavily modified 1995 Ford Bronco. SOLD to friend, to move to GLA 45.
Fun car for wife and I, 2009 Pontiac Solstice Coupe, #492 of 1266 made. 2.0T with 290HP/325 lb/ft.
Wife's DD is a 2019 Volvo XC40 Rtype.

good luck with the repair, make sure to have in writing some sort of warranty on your new transmission just in case it happens again.

Thanks guys for your comments. I have a verbal update from dealer that the transmission is fitted yesterday. 150km clocked so far and all things well it seems. Still the new tranny needs a 4500rpm and 1600km run-in test before it can be pushed again. Will update here if after some updates.

I'm not sure if has anyone out there seen or heard this issue. Leave a comment please! I'm really curious if I'm the only case in the 45AMG family.

Cheers.
