My new 2016 GLA45 AMG with Trailer Hitch

Just picked up my new 2016 GLA45 AMG

I took a chance trying to install the Curt Hitch and it worked perfectly.

Welcome to the forum! Very nice ride you have there. Also, you have shown that a trailer hitch CAN be installed on the GLA45 which will please many AMG owners here. Looks like part of the rear diffuser had to be cut out, but is nicely done.

I was lucky my dealership had a GLA250 and a GLA45 in the showroom and didn't mind me lying beneath them taking lots of measurements. I then bought the hitch and mocked up a cardboard version and tried it under the rear diffuser to make sure it would fit. Lots of research with the parts fiche showed the sheet metal and all bumper components were the same. The only thing was the diffuser was closer to the body and hung a bit lower. (due to a lower suspension) A small bit of trimming was the only modification needed. The young tech at the dealership (Luke) said it took 3 hours total. The hardest part is removing the rear bumper.

Thank you for posting the information and the pictures!!! I purchased a used gla 45 amg and didn't want to obscure the panoramic sun roof with cross bars and bike carriers. Thanks to your post I convinced a Mercedes dealer in Indianapolis to put the Curt hitch on my ride (the northernmost dealer in Indy was completely dismissive and unhelpful). Anyway, this car is now the perfect car for me. Have you purchased a hitch cover yet? If so what did you get (there is an AMG one).

Hi Rixard

I am considering placing the same hitch on my 2016 GLA45.

Have you experienced any downsides to the required modification to the rear bumber/diffuser?

(i.e. any additional noise or rattling?)

Thanks

After 6 months no issues at all. No noise no rattles still solid.

I see now many people have now installed hitches. Just don't exceed the tongue weight and towing capacity.
