Welp. The passthrough is a nice touch but dang near worthless for skis. Glad I got the roof rack but looks like I'll have to get a new toy box, my old Yakima fits round bars best and the official M-B racks are flat and wide, I think Thule OEM.

Observe.

Trunk

Backseat

Front seat, driver interference. It's a small hatchback after all.

That's my 171 east coast ski, bag has some play, think it's a 175 bag. The 185s are out of the question.

That's why you should snowboard instead...a snowboard will fit in the back with just one of the seats folded down.

I'm good with my one snow sport . Got too many hobbies already. Proud to say Golf is not one of them . Not sure golf clubs would even fit in this thing! Heck I got rifle cases that won't either.

Cemeek, thanks for sharing.

The interference doesn't surprise me. I had the same issue with my Audi RS6. The ski bag would interfere with armrest access.

Thinking of getting ski racks for the roof since my old roof box is too long for the GLA (the wing on the hatch interferes and have to program the hatch to open only halfway).

Not sure if anybody else has had better luck with a specific roof box.

I've been researching. I have an old Yakima Skybox 21 that may fit the racks but it is huge. Probably stick out over the windshield by a lot. Sometime this week I'll mount it up and get photos for reference.

Thanks cemeek, I have a Yakima SkyBox LoPro 15 (so the low profile model with 15 cu of space). It sticks out the back a lot (like I said I can only open the hatch halfway).

I am not worried about the front sticking out as much as the back interfering with the hatch.

I read on Yakima's website that you can install the box as far forward as possible to avoid the hatch interference. I have to try that but I am not sure how far forward I can even go since the MB crossbars have very little give. The cross bars have to be installed in a specific location (15" from the front windshield and 29.5" between the two cross bars) due to the roof rails' spacing tapering front to back.

I guess I could buy a smaller box (like the one MB sells) but it would be nice to get the nice one I already have working somehow.

OK y'all finally some pics. Racks are in factory position, toybox is a Yakima Skybox 21. There's only one bigger I think.

Huge box on this car, cannot open tailgate all the way.

I am impressed with the OEM MB racks, pretty sure Thule made. One big negative cannot open pano roof, only tilt.

Forgot to mention got the box as far forward as possible on the mounts (they are adjustable from inside).
